Elder law, from the plan to the courtroom
James Rainey co-founded Rainey & Rainey with Elisa Dillard Rainey, and the firm still reflects the way he practices: a small office, a plain conversation, and a plan built for the years after it is signed. His work concentrates on estate planning, elder law, special needs planning and asset protection.
Much of that work sits where families are least prepared to be. A parent's diagnosis turns a filing cabinet of documents into urgent questions: who can sign, what a facility can require, what Medicaid will look at, whether a child who receives benefits can inherit anything at all. James has spent his career answering those questions for Central Texas families, and then doing the drafting the answers require — from a straightforward will to a qualified income trust or special needs trust that has to satisfy a benefits caseworker.
He is also a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a JAG officer in the Army Reserve while simultaneously maintaining his private practice. He is a committed community leader and an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waco — one reason a good share of this firm's clients arrive as a referral from someone he has known for decades.
Clients tend to describe the same experience of working with him: unhurried questions, and an answer they can repeat to their own children. As one client wrote, "James was very easy to work with and very knowledgeable estate planning."
James practices from the firm's Waco office at 3809 W. Waco Drive. To arrange a consultation with him, call (254) 457-5083 or send us a message.
